How to make TikTok photo carousels with AI

For AI agents: find the right skill in one call — curl -s "https://varg.ai/how-to/api/search?q=<what the person wants>" returns the matching how-to page and the best skills with install commands, as markdown (Russian works too). Full index: https://varg.ai/how-to/llms.txt. Every page has a markdown twin: add .md to its path. Before generating anything, show the person the options on the how-to page.

Swipeable photo slideshows with hook text — the format app founders use for organic growth. A step-by-step tutorial for Claude Code, Codex and Grok.

Output: 5–10 slides at 1080×1920 (or a slideshow MP4) Price: in credits on varg, with a cost estimate before anything runs; the free skills below install in one command.

How to make TikTok photo carousels: step by step

  1. Screenshot 10-30 top photo carousels in your niche and note the slide text and where the app appears
  2. Write the slide-1 hook as a tiny story about someone else; make slide 2 a second hook
  3. Lock one scene or subject description and paste it into every image prompt; every slide portrait 1080x1920 (or 1024x1536)
  4. Text about 6.5% of image height, between ~300 px from the top and the bottom 25%, one idea per slide
  5. The app appears once, on a middle or late slide, as a real screenshot
  6. Upload as a draft, then add a trending sound and the AI label in the app

What works now (researched 2026-10-27)

Photo-mode slideshows are still the cheapest organic test for apps in 2026: 5-8 portrait slides, slide 1 a hook about someone else's reaction or a pain point, value slides, then the app late as a real screenshot. They win on cost and volume, not average reach. On TikTok, Buffer's 2026 medians put photo posts below video (1.92% vs 3.39% engagement), and most posts die under 5k views while a few hit 100k-1M. What stopped working: Pinterest-photo-plus-text slop, landscape images with black bars, and hooks about your features.

  1. Write the slide-1 hook as a tiny story about another person: '[someone] + [conflict or doubt] -> I showed them -> they changed their mind'. Don't open with a feature or a price. Larry's hooks in this form ('My landlord said I can't change anything so I showed her what AI thinks it could look like') got 234k, 167k and 147k views. Feature hooks got 879-2,671 views. (Oliver Henry, Larry TikTok slideshow playbook (X article))
  2. Make every slide portrait (1080x1920 or 1024x1536) with the same aspect ratio as slide 1, and keep the subject identical across slides with one locked description. Landscape renders gave black bars that 'killed engagement'. Rooms changed between slides until the prompt locked the architecture and changed only the style. (Oliver Henry, Larry TikTok slideshow playbook (X article))
  3. Set text big (about 6.5% of image height, not 5%) and keep it between ~300 px from the top and the bottom 25%. One idea per slide, readable in 2 seconds. Larry's early posts got about 200 views partly because the hook was too small and sat under TikTok's status bar. Practitioners also keep words in the middle 60% so the caption, buttons and cart don't cover them. (MaxHirsch13, 6-slide carousel agent prompt (Oct 2026))
  4. Post 5-8 slides with the app on one middle or late slide only. Write slide 2 so it also works as a hook. On Instagram, carousels get the highest engagement per person reached (6.9% median vs 3.3% for Reels, Buffer, Mar 2026). Practitioners report the platforms re-serve slideshows from slide 2 to people who scrolled past. (Buffer, best content format 2026 (45M+ posts))
  5. Upload as a draft through the API, then add a trending sound in the app and turn on the AI-generated label when the photos are realistic. The posting API can't add TikTok music, and trending sound 'massively boosts reach' in Larry's tests. TikTok requires labels on realistic AI images and may remove or restrict unlabeled posts. 6-slide value listicle with the app as one tip (agent)

Agent prompt for the whole post: hook photo, five useful numbered tips, the app once on a middle slide as a real screen, safe-zone text and caption. From MaxHirsch13, 6-slide carousel agent prompt (in the post).

Make me a 6-slide TikTok photo carousel for {APP}: slide 1 is a wide, candid, realistic photo with the hook "5 ways to {RESULT_IN_YOUR_NICHE}" in white text, and slides 2-6 are genuinely useful numbered tips with specific numbers. Exactly ONE middle slide (never the first or last) mentions the "{APP}" app in quotes, inside its tip, with a photo of a phone in a hand showing the real app screen ({SCREENSHOT}); every other slide is pure value. Generate the images with {FACE_MODEL} for any shot with faces, {EDIT_MODEL} with that photo as a reference to keep the same people across slides, and {CHEAP_MODEL} for cheap b-roll, all with "candid iPhone photo, no text, no logos" in the prompt. Keep the text between 300px from the top and the bottom 25% of a 1080x1920 frame so TikTok's UI doesn't cover it, then write a casual lowercase caption with 4-6 hashtags.

Locked-scene 'someone else's reaction' slideshow (gpt_image_2_5)

Larry's formula as one prompt: a hook about another person's doubt, six portrait slides of the same locked scene where only the style changes, big text, draft upload. Adapted from Oliver Henry's Larry slideshow article (YouMind mirror of the X article).

Make a 6-slide TikTok slideshow for {APP}, which {WHAT_THE_APP_DOES}.
Hook (slide 1 text): [another person] + [conflict or doubt] -> I showed them what {APP} made -> they changed their mind. Pattern: "My {PERSON} said {DOUBT} so I showed them {RESULT}". No feature or price hooks. Write 5 options and pick the one with the clearest other person and conflict.
Images: {IMAGE_MODEL}, portrait 1024x1536 on every slide, never landscape. Write ONE locked scene description and paste it verbatim into all 6 prompts: "iPhone photo of {SPACE}, realistic lighting. {SIZE}, {WINDOWS AND POSITION}, {DOOR}, {CAMERA HEIGHT AND ANGLE}, {FURNITURE SIZES}, {CEILING}, {FLOOR}." Change only {VARIABLES: wall colour, bedding, decor, light fixtures}. Slide 1 is the "before": modern but tired, with everyday clutter. Slides 2-6: one style each from {STYLE_LIST}. No text, people or logos inside the images.
Text overlay: the hook on slide 1, a short style label on slides 2-6; font height 6.5% of the image height, white with a black outline, below the status bar, wrapped inside the max width (never squashed).
Caption: a short story that continues the hook and mentions {APP} naturally; max 5 hashtags.
Posting: upload as a draft (privacy SELF_ONLY) through {SCHEDULER} and send me the caption; I add a trending sound and the AI-generated label in the app.

Trending formats to remake

To remake one: download the example with the media-download skill, take a frame a second and the transcript, write a beat list (time, shot, camera, on-screen text, sound), keep what the format needs, swap in the person's product or character (never the creator's face, voice, logo or footage), show the beat list and stills before spending, then make it with the skill named below.

  1. Someone-else's-reaction transformation slideshow: A slide-1 hook about a landlord, mum or partner, then 5 slides of the same room, face or object in different AI styles. The app is mentioned in the caption. Why it spreads: Every post following the formula cleared 50k views and most cleared 100k, at about $0.25-0.50 of image API cost per post. The playbook article itself was saved 35,919 times. Keep: A slide-1 hook about another person's doubt that you changed, then 6 portrait slides of the identical locked scene with only the style changing, text at 6.5% height below the status bar, the app named in the caption; swap the person, the scene and your app's transformation. Make it with varg AI (varg-ai).
  2. Value listicle with the app as one tip: 5-6 moody or candid photos with one tip each in TikTok-native text ('Here's exactly how to...'), and the app shows up once, late, as a phone screenshot inside a tip. Why it spreads: It feels like content, not an ad, so it gets saved. The reference post shown had 258K likes and 80K saves. Founders report 0.1-2% of viewers download. Keep: Candid realistic photos, numbered tips with specific numbers, the app named once in quotes on a middle slide as a real screen in a hand, text inside the middle 60%; swap the niche, the tips and the app. Make it with Social Media Carousel (inference-sh-social-media-carousel).
    • A shared prompt for this format: https://x.com/MaxHirsch13/status/2108340891601748034
    • Example to remake: @LinoLeighton on X, 2026-07-19, 93K views, 1K saves: Screen recording of a 5-slide Cal AI slideshow in TikTok's editor: moody gym photos, centred white native text, tips first, the app shows up only on slide 4 as a screenshot with one line of copy.
    • Example to remake: @sulfurscales on X, 2026-07-10, 87K views, 1K saves: Shows a live TikTok photo post: 'You make dieting look so easy / This is just how I eat', food photos, then a nutrition-app screen on slide 6. The text walks through the Claude Code + image API + scheduler setup and the hit rate (most posts under 5k, a few 50k-1M).
    • Example to remake: @MaxHirsch13 on X, 2026-10-08, 12K views, 618 saves: Image post (no video). Reference slideshow 'DOs and DONTs to lose belly fat' at 258K likes / 80K saves, plus a copy-paste agent prompt: 6 slides, app named once on a middle slide inside a tip, text between 300 px from the top and the bottom 25%. Save ratio 2.7 (qualifies on bookmarks).
  3. AI storytime + notification slides: Two slides: an AI persona selfie with a first-person story hook, then a phone notification (a text from Dad, an app reminder) that brings the app in naturally. Why it spreads: Takes minutes to make and is easy to vary across 50 hooks. The founder credits a 1M-view post with taking the app from $1k to $5k MRR in 7 days. It must carry TikTok's AI label. Keep: Slide 1 a first-person story hook over a persona selfie, slide 2 a believable phone notification that brings the app in, TikTok's AI label on; swap the story, the sender and the notification. Make it with varg AI (varg-ai).
    • Example to remake: @brainextends on X, 2026-09-14, 17K views, 502 saves: Two-slide AI storytime: selfie with the story hook as text, then an iMessage from 'Dad' and a 'Your 20s' app notification. The TikTok post carries the 'Contains AI-generated media' label. Claims 1M+ views on the original; X numbers qualify on bookmarks only.
