What it does
A desktop editor (Mac, Windows, Ubuntu) that stores, edits and reviews footage in one place, built so your teammates and coding agents work on the same timeline. Every edit decision is code with a real timeline on top, so you can change any decision by hand; agents connect over a local MCP server to search footage and edit projects. The team made its own launch video in Kino with 5+ agents on one timeline (sound design, rotoscoping VFX) and says it ran on shows like Survivor and A24's Beef before the rebuild. The free plan has the full editor, unlimited imports and exports, real-time collaboration and MCP; paid plans add share links, searchable footage and AI rough cuts. Use when
- agents and people editing one video together
- finding highlights in hours of footage
- sending an edit out for timecoded feedback
- importing an old DaVinci project and letting an agent continue it
Not for
- Headless or server pipelines: the MCP server runs inside the desktop app, which must stay open
Install
- Claude Code:
claude mcp add kino --transport http http://127.0.0.1:45680/mcp --scope user - Codex:
codex mcp add kino --url http://127.0.0.1:45680/mcp - Any agent, with the vargai CLI:
vargai install kino-ai
